Music Instructional Guide

Grades K-2

K–2 students participate in activities that call upon them to explore their own musical expression with an eye toward music literacy. The class meets twice a week and includes hands-on activities in singing, movement, dance, composition, instrumental diversity, reading musical notation, improvisation, listening, cooperative efforts, and performance techniques. Overall concepts taught include rhythm, tempo, meter, dynamics, pitch, form, style, world music cultures, and genres.

Grades 3-5

Students in grades three to five participate in activities that call upon them to explore their own musical expression with an eye toward music literacy. Students in grades four and five can elect to participate in instrument lessons and to play in the beginning band.

Grades 6-8

The choral program, instrument lessons, and band participation are offered as electives to students in grades 6–8.
