¡Saludos! This week in elementary Spanish, we'll be talking a lot about El Día de la Raza (The Day of the Race) - a holiday celebrated in many Spanish-speaking countries throughout Central and South America. El Día de la Raza coincides with the date of Columbus Day, but rather than celebrating Columbus himself, this holiday celebrates the hispanic race that has come to be due to the European conquest of the Americas brought on by Columbus's journey in 1492. Many people recognize and honor the indigenous cultures of the Americas through celebrations, parades, and other festivities. This video has some vibrant images of some of the celebrations for this special holiday (Youtube will do some rough translating of the audio as well :). ¡Feliz Día de la Raza!
