6th grade

On Tuesday mornings, the sixth graders are meeting weekly with Mrs. Stanton and Mrs. Wipfler to dive into collaboration, inquiry and research, and utilizing technology to create their own podcasts. Podcasts are an amazing learning tool for kids and adults, and creating one takes a lot of growth mindset, flexible thinking, and willingness to try new things. Check out some amazing podcasts on the Library, Media, Tech website, including podcasts created by Lyme students in the first trimester elective: Passion Project Podcast.

This week, the sixth graders collaborated with their podcast groups to brainstorm all their ideas for potential podcast topics. The ideas needed to be something they are passionate about already, or are passionate to learn more about and share that learning and knowledge with others.

Groups categorized their ideas together and then did a gallery walk to see what other groups had brainstormed.

Next, students brainstormed possible research questions for their top three ideas. Next week, each group will select their top choice for a podcast topic and create a pitch using FlipGrid. Our next steps will be planning the podcast, researching the topic(s), taking notes, creating a script, receiving feedback, and THEN recording and producing an episode. Each group will create at least one episode and will have the opportunity to create additional episodes outside of class once they learn the Soundtrap for Education software!
