Jumping Kangaroos in Math Class
The tip of the iceberg question asks if you can get the kangaroos to swap sides in the least number of moves?
Can you do it in the least number of moves every time?
What if there were four kangaroos on each side?
If you want to go deeper into the problem you could work out a system to quickly calculate the least moves needed for any number of kangaroos.
Many students found an equation for any number of kangaroos. A few went even deeper and worked out an equation for one side staying constant and the other side varies. Everyone did a nice job recording their work in their Exploration Journals.
