Each morning, after the Kindergartners have done their "jobs", they get to choose an activity they'd like to do for "Choice Time." This week we added new duplos to the choices, thank you to someone from the community through the "Giving Tree." Choice time, as you have probably guessed, is a time for play. Play is important work for a Kindergartner. They work on language skills, negotiating skills, problem solving, sharing skills, group dynamics and teamwork, leadership skills, fine motor practice, kindness... the list goes on and on. By beginning the day with play, children have connected with their classmates and are ready to dive into academics, which many are also pretty enthusiastic about.
But, they've already done some important work! Play is powerful.
